Where we live

Where we live

Kilmacthomas is quite a large village by area though there is only one street of shops. It is situated in the South East of Ireland, 14 miles west of Waterford City and 14 miles east of Dungarvan town and Port. It was the birthplace of Tyrone Power Snr, the actor and is a mainly farming community. We are situated at the foot of the Comeragh Mountains and just north of the beautiful S.E coastline. There is a magnificent railway viaduct of local stone which crosses the village though the line is long disused.
Since we moved here nearly five years ago Kilmacthomas has increased in popularity as a “dormitory town” for the people ofWaterford City and it’s industries. Consequently there has been a boom in construction of houses and apartments driving the cost of land rapidly upwards. As a village existing in the famine era it suffered greatly and endured mass emigration. There exists next to my home what was a a famine union or workhouse where attempts were made to feed the many starving victims. Today it is a small business park
(more info click here) It is really a very nice place to live. Fresh air and friendly people. Now for some pictures.
